Creating a Sub-Domain

Many organizations are broken down into smaller groups that focus on one area of the business. Or perhaps the organization is dispersed geographically. In either case, the company may decide that they want break down their main domain into sub-domains. This is simple in Microsoft’s DNS Server. Choose the parent domain (scrimtech.com, for example) and then right-click. Choose New Domain and enter the sub-domain name in the dialog box that appears (see Figure 13.20).

If the sub-domain is handled on another server, enter NS records for each of the other servers. If it is handled locally, simply add the records that are required.
