Setting Up the Secondary DNS Server
After you configure your server, you need to add a Secondary server. Adding this server provides redundancy and also splits the workload among the servers (you can have several Secondary servers if you wish). The following list outlines the steps involved:
| 1. | In the DNS Manager, right-click the server to be configured as a Secondary server. |
| 2. | Choose New
Zone from the context menu. From the New Zone dialog
box, choose Secondary (see
Figure 13.21). On this screen, you are asked for the zone name and the server from which to get zone files. A handy option is the ability (as seen here) to drag the hand over another server listed in the DNS Manager to automatically pick up the information. If the Primary DNS Server is not a Microsoft DNS Server, you will need to enter the information manually. |
| 3. | Click the Next button, and you can enter the information for the file. This should already be entered (see Figure 13.22), and you should click Next to accept the defaults. |
| 4. | The next screen asks you to identify the IP master for the zone. This should already be filled in for you (see Figure 13.23). |
| 5. | The last screen tells you that you are finished. Click Finish to close this screen. |
