Exercise 13.2: Configuring a DNS Domain

Now that the server is up and running, you need to create the domains that you will use. The first domain to be created is the reverse lookup domain. After that is in place, you create the SunnyDays.com domain.

1.	From the Start menu, choose Programs, Administrative Tools, DNS Manager.
2.	From the menu, choose DNS, New Server. Enter your IP address and click OK.
3.	To create the reverse lookup domain, click your system’s address. Choose DNS, New Zone.
4.	Choose Primary and click Next.
5.	For the Zone, enter 106.160.in-addr.arpa and press tab (the file name is filled in for you).
6.	Click Next to continue, then choose Finish.
7.	Ensure “106.160.in-addr.arpa” is highlighted, and choose DNS, Properties from the menu.
8.	On the WINS Reverse Lookup tab, check the box to Use WINS Reverse Lookup. Enter SUNNYDAYS.COM as the host domain, and choose OK. There should now be a new host record.
7.	Select your DNS Server’s address and select DNS, New Zone from the menu.
8.	Select Primary and choose Next. Enter SUNNYDAYS.COM as the zone name. Press tab to have the system fill in the file name, then choose Next. Finally, click the Finish button.
9.	Right-click the SunnyDays.com domain name. From the context menu that appears, select Properties.
10.	Select the WINS Lookup tab.
11.	Check the Use WINS Resolution box. Enter your IP address in the WINS server space and choose Add.

Choose OK to close the dialog box. A WINS record should be in the SunnyDays.com domain.
