Remote Execution Utilities

Windows NT includes a series of remote execution utilities that enable a user to execute commands on a Unix host system. These utilities provide varying degrees of security. Note that varying subsets of these utilities are available with Windows NT Server and Workstation. The resource kit includes all of these utilities.

Any of these utilities that require passwords transmit the password as plain text. Unlike the Windows NT logon sequence, the logon information is not encrypted before being transmitted. Any unscrupulous user with access to network monitoring software could intercept the user name and password for the remote host. If you use the same user name and password on the remote host and on your Windows NT system, your Windows NT account could be compromised.

Windows NT provides three remote execution utilities. Each is discussed in more detail in the following sections.
