After you have installed SNMP, you may want to look at the Performance Monitor utility and notice the TCP/IP objects available for monitoring. To do this, use the following steps:
| 1. | Choose Start, Programs, Administrative Tools and select Performance Monitor. |
| 2. | Click on the Edit menu and click Add to Chart. |
| 3. | Look at the list of available TCP/IP objects. |
| 1. | Follow the previous exercise. |
| 2. | Select the ICMP object from the list. |
| 3. | Click on Messages/sec in the counter box. |
| 4. | For the Scale, set to 1 and click Add. |
| 5. | Select another object IP. |
| 6. | From the Counter list, click Datagrams sent/sec. |
| 7. | Set the scale to 1 and then click Add. |
| 8. | Select Done. |
| 9. | Make certain you are using the chart view. |
| 10. | Change Vertical Maximum to 10 and click OK. |
| 11. | Go to a command prompt and ping another computer. |
| 12. | Go back to Performance Monitor and notice what happened. |
| 13. | There should be two messages for ICMP and one IP datagram (two ICMP messages—one request, one reply). |
| 14. | Shut down Performance Monitor and go to the next exercise. |
