Exercise 16.4: Using the Route Command to View the Routing Table

and Add Entries

This exercise is used to display the contents of the local route table and to see how this table lists the default gateway address. You should have installed TCP/IP and have a default gateway address configured.

1.	From a command prompt, type route -p print. This displays the local route table. Note the address of your client as well as the address of the default gateway in the route table.
2.	Open Control Panel, Network, and then select the Protocols tab.
3.	Open the TCP/IP Properties dialog box.
4.	Delete the Default Gateway address.
5.	Choose Apply and close the dialog box.
6.	From a command prompt, type route -p print. Note the default gateway address is missing from the table.
7.	Follow steps 2-5 to restore the default gateway address.

From a command prompt, type route /? to see all the switches available with the Route command.
