Exercise 16.7 displays the route used to establish a TCP/IP connection. You should have installed TCP/IP and have access to the Internet.
| 1. | Open your Web browser and connect to www.microsoft.com. |
| 2. | From a command prompt, type tracert www.microsoft.com. Note the route used to connect to the Microsoft Web site and the number of hops used for the connection. |
| 3. | Connect to www.microsoft.com/train_cert. |
| 4. | From a command prompt, type tracert www.microsoft.com/train_cert. See if the path is the same as that used for the prior connection. |
| 5. | Connect to home.microsoft.com. |
| 6. | From a command prompt, type tracert. See if the path is different than connecting to www.microsoft.com. |
| 7. | Try connecting to other Web sites and viewing the path to these sites. |
- Reconnect to some of the same sites and view the path with TRACERT. Is the path the same each time you connect?
