Dial-In Permissions
As with all other aspects of Windows NT, security is built into the RAS Server. At a minimum, a user will require an account in Windows NT, and that account will need to have dial-in permissions set.
You can grant users dial-in permission by using the User Manager (or User Manager for Domains) or through the Remote Access Admin program. If you are having problems connecting to the RAS server, this is one of the first things to check. Following are the steps to set or check dial-in permissions.
| 1. | Open the User Manager (Start, Programs, Administrative Tools, User Manager.) |
| 2. | Select the account that you are using and choose User, Properties. You will see the User Properties dialog box, like the one shown in Figure 17.12. |
| 3. | Click the Dial in button. The Dialin Information dialog box appears (see Figure 17.13). |
| 4. | Check the “Grant dialin permission to user” box to allow the user to dial in. |
| 1. | Start the Remote Access Admin (Start, Programs, Administrative tools, RAS Admin.) |
| 2. | From the menu choose Users, Permissions. |
| 3. | In the Permissions dialog box, select the user and ensure that Dialin permission is granted (see Figure 17.14). |
