Configuring TCP/IP on the RAS Server
If you run a mixed network that includes Unix-like hosts, then you should enable the TCP/IP protocol on the RAS server. This allows your clients to use an Internet connection on your network. The RAS Server TCP/IP Configuration dialog box includes the capability to restrict network access to the RAS server (see Figure 17.25).
The other options all deal with the assignment of TCP/IP address to the clients that are dialing in. By default, the RAS server uses the services of a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server to assign the addresses. If your DHCP server has a long lease period, you may want to assign the numbers from a pool of addresses that are given on the server. If you allow the client to request an address, you must configure the client stations for all the other parameters.
If your clients are having problems connecting, assign a range of addresses to the RAS server; this eliminates any problems related to the DHCP server and still allows you to prevent clients from requesting specific IP addresses.
